Winter Layering Tips

Layering is the practical approach for the sophisticated man. From the house, to the car, to the office, dressing in layers keeps you comfortable, even if you’re inside a heated building or braving the elements outside. Here are some of our tips for outfit optimization.

Thick and Thin: Keep the thinnest, most breathable fabrics closest to your body. Start with your undershirt, then your shirt, then your sweater, then your suit coat, and finally your overcoat. The thickest, most durable layers will be farthest from the body.

Texture: Vary the texture of each layer unless the garments came as a set, such as a suit jacket with trousers. You may use the same materials, such as cotton or wool for your other garments as long as the texture is slightly different. Choose pieces that complement each other and create a versatile look that will still work if you add or remove layers throughout the day. Look forward to layering your clothes as you create a unique outfit every time.

Plan Ahead: Do you find yourself rushing out the door every morning? Plan your outfit the night before so you can take time to choose each of your layers. Decide on a specific spot in your closet to keep your selected garments together for easy access the next day.
